Cartograms

A cartogram is a distorted map which uses its distortions to emphasize the value of comparison.  In the maps below for example the state's numbers of Walmarts, MacDonalds, and Starbucks are represented by their size.  It is plain to see that California has far more Starbucks than any other state.
